    Journal Description

Prima Facie, UFPB, online, ISSN 1678-2593, is an international journal, published twice a year by the Graduate Program in Law at UFPB. “Prima facie”, we translate this Latin expression into English as “at first sight” or “first impression” but we apply it for specific situations. We have a prima facie case before a trial into the common law system. The plaintiff needs to provide a minimum in terms of evidences, or they do not have a lawsuit. We define this as prima facie evidences. Prima facie evidences mean a fact or just a presumption that can be disproved or rebutted. In health care, we can apply the expression “prima facie” to describe some procedures of investigation about the maternal risk at the first trimester. On daily basis, people collect arguments and evidences at first sight, when they would like to claim something important and true. Reasoning is in construction; therefore, “prima facie” is not the last word but some indications based on provisory facts for starting a case, a study or a concern. A viewpoint in “prima facie” means a real situation which we can verify in terms of value, test quality or usefulness. We must examine materials according to primary evidences. Ability and competence are prerequisites if you would like to understand the opinion that someone has presented before. We can also state “prima facie” when we are speaking of a higher obligation in comparison with another less important. In this case, it means an imperative duty. This law journal has interfaces with Philosophy, History, Political Sciences, Sociology, and others. Its goal is to present actual questions connecting Brazilian problems with the Global realities. We invite all scholars in Law, History, Political Sciences and related fields to be at the round table for bringing us discussions on sustainable development, economic growth, criminality, human rights, environment, violence, state power, cultural globalization, health, biolaw and labor. By its articles and book reviews you will be in contact with these subjects. Our editorial office is located in João Pessoa, state of Paraíba, Brazil, at the Center for Legal Studies at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). We accept collaborations in four languages: Portuguese, Spanish, English and French.
